Going on a camping safari in Tanzania is an exciting adventure! Packing the right items will help you stay comfortable, safe, and ready for early morning game drives and cool evenings in the bush.

Here’s a practical packing checklist from Kilisherpas Travel to make your safari smooth and enjoyable:

1. Clothing & Accessories

  • Warm layers (fleece jacket or sweater) for chilly mornings and evenings

  • Light, breathable clothes in neutral colors (khaki, beige, or olive green work best for game viewing)

  • Comfortable walking shoes or sturdy sneakers

  • Wide-brimmed hat or cap to protect from the sun

  • Polarized sunglasses

  • Lightweight rain jacket or poncho (especially useful during the rainy seasons)

  • Scarf or buff for dust protection

2. Toiletries & Personal Items

  • Quick-dry travel towel and a small inflatable pillow

  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, and deodorant

  • Wet wipes and toilet paper (very useful in camps)

  • Moisturizer and lip balm (the air can be very dry)

  • High-quality mosquito repellent (with DEET)

  • Sunscreen with high SPF (at least 30+)

  • Hand sanitizer

3. Gadgets & Essentials

  • Binoculars (highly recommended for spotting distant wildlife)

  • Camera or smartphone with extra memory cards and batteries

  • Flashlight or headlamp with spare batteries

  • Portable power bank for charging your devices

  • Adapter plug (Type G – British style)

4. Other Useful Items

  • Small daypack for daily game drive essentials

  • Refillable water bottle

  • Energy snacks (nuts, energy bars, or dried fruit)

  • Personal medication (plus painkillers, antihistamines, anti-diarrhea tablets, and any prescription medicines)

  • Travel documents: passport, travel insurance, yellow fever certificate, and flight tickets

Pro Tip from Kilisherpas Travel:
If you have large suitcases, you can safely leave them at our office in Arusha or at your hotel before the safari. We recommend bringing only a small, soft-sided bag (duffel bag) for the camping safari as space in the vehicle is limited.

Packing light and smart will allow you to fully enjoy the magic of sleeping under the stars and waking up to the sounds of the African wilderness.

Karibu Tanzania!
We look forward to helping you prepare for an unforgettable camping safari.
